Georgia stayed alive for the 2012 NCAA Tournament with a big win in the first round of the SEC Tournament on Thursday. And Mississippi State, the Peach State Bulldogs’ victim in a 71-61 loss, may be squarely on the bubble.
SEC Tournament Update: Georgia Upsets Mississippi State, 71-61
Gerald Robinson led all scorers with 23 points for the Dawgs, who got 47 points off their bench from Robinson, Nemanja Djurisic, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and just 24 from their five starters. Georgia will need to win the SEC Tournament to make the NCAA Tournament field.
The Bulldogs from what used to be the SEC West in basketball are probably still on the good side of the NCAA Tournament cutline, but their uninspiring showing in New Orleans won't help matters. Jalen Steele had 19 points to lead Mississippi State, but the Bulldogs' big three of Arnett Moultrie, Dee Bost, and Renardo Sidney combined for just 21 points.
