UNC Vs. Maryland Final Score: Tar Heels Onto ACC Tournament Semifinals

The top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the No. 8 seed Maryland Terrapins 85-69 in the opening game of second round action in the 2012 ACC Tournament on Friday. A lopsided performance from Maryland featured 38.7 percent shooting from the field and 13 turnovers to just 10 assists, but it's hard to blame sophomore guard Terrell Stoglin for his effort in the loss. Stoglin scored a game-high 30 points on 11-21 shooting to keep the Terrapins out of a more embarrassing blowout, but he simply couldn't match the balanced output from North Carolina.

The lead story of the game for NC is that forward John Henson left in the first half with an injured left wrist after being fouled by Maryland's Ashton Pankey on a hard drive to the basket. However, the Heels still cruised to a win on 50.0 percent shooting, 7-15 from beyond the arc and 21 assists. Five players scored in double figures, as Reggie Bullock and Harrison Barnes notched 15 points each, while Tyler Zeller and James McAdoo pumped in 14 apiece and Kendall Marshall added 13 of his own to go with a game-high 12 assists (more than the entire Maryland team).

North Carolina now awaits the winner of the second game of the day between the No. 4 seed Virginia Cavaliers (22-8, 9-7 ACC) and the No. 5 seed N.C. State Wolfpack (21-11, 9-7 ACC).
