Chaz Williams scored 20 points and had 10 assists to lead No. 8 seed Massachusetts to an upset of top-seeded Temple, 77-71, in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament on Friday.

After the Owls carried a 36-31 lead into the locker room at halftime, UMass scored the first 17 points of the second half to build a 12-point advantage. Temple eventually clawed its way back to a 61-57 lead, but the Minutemen outscored them 20-10 over the final seven minutes to pull off the shocker.
Khalif Wyatt had 15 points for the Owls (24-7), who won the league’s regular season title for a record 10th time, but became the second straight top-seed to lose their first game of the postseason. Xavier pulled the same feat a season ago.
UMass, which defeated No. 9 seed Duquesne in the first round on Tuesday, is trying to get back to the A-10 championship game for the first time since 2001.
