Virginia Tech has scheduled a 4 p.m. ET press conference where it is expected to announce that Seth Greenberg is out as men’s basketball coach. This according to columnist David Teel of the Daily Press in Newport News, VA.
Seth Greenberg Out As Virginia Tech Basketball Coach
In a surprise move, Virginia Tech fired Seth Greenberg after nine seasons as men’s basketball coach on Monday.

If the report is accurate, then the news has likely blindsided Greenberg, who earlier in the day vocalized a belief that his job security was not in question.

In nine seasons at Virginia Tech, Greenberg has produced an overall record of 167-117, including a 66-71 mark in ACC play. His achilles heel in Blacksburg, however, has been an inability to get the Hokies into the NCAA Tournament, a feat he has accomplished just once. Since 2004-05, Virginia Tech has appeared in the NIT five times.
The Hokies have finished fourth or better in the ACC under Greenberg five times, most recently in 2010-11 when they went 9-7 in league play and were considered by many to be the biggest NCAA Tournament snub. Virginia Tech finished last season 15-16 overall and 4-12 in the conference.
