Kentucky has added significant depth to its backcourt for next season with the news that combo guard Julius Mays will transfer from Wright State to UK for his final year of eligibility.

John Calipari and Kentucky have picked up a solid shooter and veteran presence with the addition of Wright State transfer Julius Mays.

Per NCAA rules, Mays will be eligible to play immediately at Kentucky since he is on pace to graduate this spring, and he plans to attend graduate school in an area not offered at Wright State.
Mays, who began his college career at NC State, averaged 14.1 points per game for the Raiders last season and led the team in scoring, assists and steals. He was named the Horizon League’s Newcomer of the Year and was a second team all-conference selection.
John Calipari is expected to start NC State transfer Ryan Harrow at Point guard and McDonald's All-American Archie Goodwin at the two next season. Mays, who shot 42.4 percent (50-for-118) from beyond the arc and dished out 2.5 assists per game at WSU, could serve as the primary backup at either, or both, of those positions. He also shot 83.2 percent from the free-throw line, which would have been the top mark on Kentucky's national championship team last season.
More than anything, Mays can provide a veteran presence on a team that will rely heavily on its four incoming freshmen, as well as sophomores Harrow and Kyle Wiltjer. Wiltjer is the only contributor from last year's team who will be back for Calipari.
