Iona Signee Michael Haynes Shot And Killed In Chicago
Incoming Iona basketball player Michael Haynes was shot and killed on Thursday.

Police said the 22-year-old Haynes was shot three times, including once in the chest. Kandice Blouin, Haynes’ cousin, said the altercation was over a stolen necklace. Blouin said there was a shoving match between several men, and Haynes reportedly pushed one man, who then pulled out a gun and shot him.
Steve Dockery, who coached Haynes as a high school freshman, told the Chicago Sun Times he was devastated upon hearing the news.
“When I got the news I was devastated. I was hurt,” said Steve Dockery, who coached Haynes at Corliss. “I don’t know what’s going on anymore.
“I know he had just signed with Iona. He talked with my son [former Duke player Sean Dockery] last week and Sean told him he should get out of Chicago as soon as he could.”
Haynes committed to Iona College in May and was just a few weeks from beginning school. He signed with Texas El Paso out of prep school, but never played for the Miners.
