Everyone's favorite cuddly, Sprite-guzzling rapper Drake has been a longtime fan of the Kentucky Wildcats, showing his support of the team as far back as 2010. Now that UK has won a national title, they wanted to show their appreciation to Drake for ... uh ... being famous AND liking a sports team? So they gave him his own official Kentucky championship ring. I'm guessing that when Drake opened the box, he wept.
Last Name: ‘Drake Receives Kentucky Championship Ring,’ First Name: ‘WTF’
Drake posted an Instagram photo of the ring on Friday, which comes to us courtesy of Daniel Martin at CollegeBasketballTalk.
It’s even personalized! If “Drizzy” is short for “Drake” and not just an explanation of how you feel after you ride a Tilt-A-Whirl in the rain.
It’s nothing new for sports teams to honor their famous fans -- you know, like with bobbleheads, or like “Steve Perry night” or something. I’m pretty sure the New York Yankees never gave Jay-Z a World Series ring, for example.
But maybe this is the start of a whole new trend! Just think of the possibilities!
- New York Giants give Spike Lee a Super Bowl ring for being willing to go out in public like this
- Los Angeles Kings give Channing Tatum a day with the Stanley Cup because he wandered into Staples Center one night, mistakenly believing it was to see a Shakira concert
- Miami Heat consider giving Rick Ross a ring, opt against it for fear he’ll break it open and look for chocolate inside
- Yankees let Billy Crystal have a major league at-bat. Oh wait
- Golden State Warriors let Jessica Alba buy them dinner
