First-year coach Bruce Weber was ejected near the end of Kansas State’s 74-72 exhibition loss to Tijuca Club in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Monday.

Five K-State players fouled out of the game, which featured 78 total free throws, 41 of which were attempted by the home team. The game officials also handed out four technical fouls, two of which went to Weber, who was ejected and escorted off the court after arguing a call with about six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

“It was a tough, hard-fought loss tonight,” Weber said in a release. “It was a foul-plagued game with lots of technicals and double-fouls. I have been on many international trips and you never know what type of officials you are going to get in these games and FIBA rules are pretty different. They let us play pretty physical in our first three games and tonight we had five guys foul out, but give our kids credit for coming back.”

Associate head coach Chris Lowery expressed his concern on Twitter a bit more directly.

“Never been in a game where I was fearful that my players would get hurt,” he wrote.

Rodney McGruder led four Wildcat players in double figured with 16 points. K-State, which fell to 2-2 on the exhibition tour, will face Brazil’s Botafogo Club at 4 p.m. Wednesday before heading back to the states.
