In a move perfectly in line with the times, five-star point guard Tyler Ennis announced his commitment to Syracuse Thursday night in a YouTube video that was posted on the website of his AAU team. They even made special note that folks wanting even more of the commitment could talk about it on Twitter using the hashtag #TYLERCOMMITS (all caps are key).
Tyler Ennis Commits To Syracuse In Most Modern Way Possible
Ennis, a native of Canada, had been considered a Syracuse lean for quite some time. The desire to remain close to his family, including his brother, who plays basketball at Villanova, reportedly played a large part in his decision.
Current Orange point guard Brandon Triche being a senior this season also helped.
“I picked them because I felt comfortable with the coaching first of all,” Ennis told Scout.com. “Also the position that they have for me coming in is going to give me a chance to play a lot as a freshman. I’ll be able to make mistakes and not have someone itching down my back my first year.”
Ennis is Boeheim’s first commitment from the class of 2013. He also joins Andy Rautins and Kris Joseph as Canadian players of note who chose to take their games to Syracuse.
Andrew Wiggins, who is widely considered the best high school player in the country, is an AAU teammate of Ennis. He is now expected to announce his college choice through an intricate lazer light show that will be projected onto the front of the White House on July 4, 2013.
