Central Florida Keeps Keith Clanton, Loses Three Other Seniors

Central Florida received some much-needed good news for its basketball program when star forward Keith Clanton announced he would be staying at UCF for his senior season.

Despite the fact that his team will be serving a postseason ban, Central Florida star Keith Clanton has decided to finish his college career as a Knight.

Clanton originally announced his decision Saturday on Twitter.

UCF confirmed Clanton’s decision on Monday, but also announced that fellow seniors Marcus Jordan, Josh Crittle and C.J. Reed have decided to leave the program. All four seniors had the option to transfer and play without sitting out a season because of the one-year postseason ban.

Reed, who transferred to Central Florida from Bethune-Cookman, will play his final season of college ball at Georgia Southern. The decision of Jordan, who was arrested in June due to a disturbance at an Omaha hotel, reportedly has nothing to do with the NCAA penalties and he will continue to take classes at UCF. Crittle’s future plans are currently unknown.

But the big news for Central Florida is without question the return of Clanton, who flirted with the idea of transferring to Kentucky or Florida State after news of the penalties dropped. The 6’7 forward led the Knights in both scoring (14.5 ppg) and rebounding (8.1 rpg) as a junior in 2011-12.
