Tennessee Freshman Derek Reese Tears Labrum, Will Miss 6 Months
Tennessee freshman guard Derek Reese will be out six months after surgery to repair a torn labrum.

The 6’7” guard will miss almost the entirety of the 2012 season but, if all goes well with his recovery and rehab, he could potentially return in March. Chad Newman of UT sports medicine disclosed the procedure, which took place at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Reese recently accompanied the team on a tour through Italy. European trips have become commonplace for Division 1 programs in the late summer. Reese, who enrolled in school during the Summer, did not play in any of the Vols’ four games in Italy.
With the six months of recovery time, a medical redshirt could certainly be in the works for Reese. Cuonzo Martin’s club is still deep at the swing position, with six players between 6’3” and 6’6” expected to contribute.
