Texas Tech Leading Scorer Jordan Tolbert Doesn’t Want To Play For Billy Gillispie

Jordan Tolbert, Texas Tech’s leading scorer last season, says he does not want to play for controversial head coach Billy Gillispie anymore.

The case against Billy Gillispie returning for a second season at Texas Tech continues to grow.

The latest piece of evidence was entered Monday morning when sophomore forward Jordan Tolbert, the Red Raiders’ leading scorer last season, told ESPN.com that he does not want to play for Gillispie in 2012-13.

“I don’t,” Tolbert said. “I don’t. Maybe I would for the assistants. I haven’t put that much thought into it. There is a big sense of urgency. I don’t want to play for him if he comes back.”

Gillispie is currently on an extended medical leave after spending six days in a Lubbock hospital last week. He checked himself into the hospital shortly before news broke that several of his players had met with Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt to voice their concerns over Gillispie’s handling of the program. Those concerns included allegations of player mistreatment and excessive practice time.

No decision on Gillispie’s future at Texas Tech has been made, as he has reportedly been completely off the grid since news of the player mutiny first made headlines.

“We just don’t know,” Tolbert said. “We’re waiting to find out like everyone else. I haven’t seen or talked to him in two or three weeks.”

Texas Tech posted an 8-23 record in Gillispie’s first season at the school, and won just one game in Big 12 play. Since the season ended, six players have transferred.
