Connecticut Huskies men's basketball head coach Jim Calhoun's retirement is imminent, a source close to the coach has told NBC Connecticut's Bob Connors. The news comes six days after a SI.com article written by Mark Blaudschun revealed the 70-year-old Calhoun was considering retirement and was set to make a decision in the upcoming weeks.

According to the source, Calhoun would like to meet with players in person before any official announcement is made. “It is a matter of Calhoun and his agent “dotting the ‘i’s’ and crossing the ‘t’s’,” says the source.
Calhoun has been recovering from a fracture left hip that he suffered after falling of his bike near his summer home in Madison, CT. The injury had forced Calhoun to work only in a limited capacity over the summer.
If Calhoun does retire, his 26-year tenure at UConn will end with more than 600 victories, three National Championships and an induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
His accomplishments, however, has been slightly overshadowed by NCAA sanctions, the latest coming this season when the Huskies are banned from any 2012-13 postseason.
