Lance Thomas, a former Duke Blue Devils men's basketball star, has reached a settlement with the jeweler suing him for defaulting on payments, Laura Keeley of the Raleigh News & Observer's Duke Now blog is reporting. The settlement comes almost two weeks after the initial news of Thomas' finical troubles were made public.

Former Duke basketball player Lance Thomas has agreed to a settlement with the jeweler suing him for defaulting on payments.


According to the lawsuit, Thomas purchased $97,800 worth of custom jewelry, with a $30,000 down payment, while he was a member of the 2009-10 Duke basketball team. That team went on to win the Blue Devils’ fourth National Championship with Thomas averaging 25.3 minutes, 4.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
Last week, Thomas said he was not going to talk to the NCAA about an extra benefits investigation. In a recent email to the Raleigh News & Observer, Thomas’s lawyer briefly stated:
“We have reached a settlement,” Mike Bowers, the attorney for Raefello & Co. wrote in an email. “I cannot make further comment.
