The Oregon State Beavers men’s basketball team has landed a commitment from Dutch big man Olaf Schaftenaar. The announcement was made official by head coach Craig Robinson Tuesday. Schaftenaar can play immediately.

Schaftenaar, a 6'9, 205-pound forward, is the younger brother of former Beavers' standout Roeland Schaftenaar, who played for the program from 2007-10.

“We couldn’t be more happy to add another quality player to the program especially this late,” Robinson said. “We’re equally excited about having another Schaftenaar to play for Oregon State. His length and shooting touch is a welcome addition along with his international experience.”

Last season, Schaftenaar played for Real club Nautico de Tenerife in Spain, where he averaged 13.6 points per game in 30 games. He also averaged 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Dutch national championship in ‘10-11.
