Case Keenum Applies For Medical Waiver

Houston quarterback Case Keenum tore his ACL, and successfully underwent knee surgery on Sept. 19. Keenum is now applying for a medical waiver to allow which will allow him to play for Houston next season:

“After talking this over with my family and people close to me, I have decided to try for another year of eligibility,” Keenum said in a statement released through UH. “This ending wasn’t exactly what I predicted for my senior year and because I care so much about this team and this University, I would love to be able to play one more season. I don’t know what the outcome will be, but I at least want to see the whole process through. I thank Coach Sumlin and the athletic department for their help in this appeal.”

Keenum is currently the fifth leading passer in NCAA history and if his waiver is granted he should become the NCAA’s all-time leading passer. He is just under 3,500 yards behind all-time NCAA passing yards record holder Timmy Chang, who played at Hawai’i.

The decision may not be known since there is no specific timeline for a decision to be made. If Keenum is considering playing for Houston next year he will have to be enrolled in classes this spring. If Keenum is denied the waiver he most likely will enter the NFL draft.
