Mountaineer cornerback Keith Tandy had ten tackles, one interception, and a forced fumble as the West Virginia offense tidily built a lead and let the WVU defense hammer USF’s offense into submission for a 20-6 win in Morgantown.
West Virginia Smothers South Florida In Morgantown 20-6
The fourth quarter was little more than an exercise in time-killing, as WVU ran the ball on offense and let USF qb BJ Daniels do the imploding for them. Daniels was hurried numerous times, scrambled out of the pocket hopelessly on numerous others, and looked harried as he struggled to make anything happen against Jeff Casteel’s baffling 3-3-5. Do enough of this with a depleted wide receiver corps, and that’s how you throw two picks in the fourth quarter on the road.
The best word to describe WVU’s performance: tidy, as in Geno Smith’s 24/31, 219 yard and 2 TD performance, which put USF’s ungainly offense in a hole they could not escape. Tonight, West Virginia looked like the clear favorite in the Big East, something that they could win provided they display the same neat, clinical touch they showed in defeating the Bulls tonight in every game on the schedule.
