Crimson Tide Charge Out Of The Gate Thanks To Screens, Omar Hunter Penalties

Alabama may be trying to use Florida’s defensive speed against it again.

After shredding the Gators with screens in the SEC Championship Game last year, Alabama threw three screen passes on its first drive tonight. That helped get the Crimson Tide into the red zone, but Florida stiffened, getting a third down sack of Greg McElroy from Matthew Elam and forcing a Jeremy Shelley field goal. Alabama leads, 3-0.

Hulking Florida defensive tackle Omar Hunter did almost as much for Alabama's cause. Roughing the passer and offsides penalties on Hunter gave the Crimson Tide 20 free yards and earned him a spot on the Florida sideline.
