The little-watched postseason college football contest known as the EagleBank bowl will still grace a tiny fraction of America’s television screens this December, but thanks to a new title sponsorship deal, it’ll now be known as “The Military Bowl Presented By Northrup Grumman.” Descriptive! And sure to be a lively draw, pitting the ACC against Conference USA, although there are slots for the service academies, where applicable:
EagleBank Bowl Now Funded By Massive Defense Contractors; Is Still Unwatchable
↵The game does have military tie-ins. Army would have played in the game last year if it became bowl eligible.
Navy has a deal to return to the Military Bowl in 2011, while an agreement exists with Army for the game in 2012.
Both contracts are contingent on the respective academies becoming bowl eligible.
↵We would’ve gone with Ben’s Chili Bowl, ourselves, if we really wanted to tie the contest to the nation’s capital, but the proceeds do benefit the USO, so that’s nice. And a word to the ticketless: These are not people you want to try sneaking guns past.
