Florida State Vs. NC State: ‘Pack Lurches To 7-0 First-Quarter Lead

The ESPN broadcast of Florida State-North Carolina State got off to a rollicking start, with unmuted booth mics and unframed camera shots and graphics run amok really setting the tone for an exciting evening of ACC football:

And the rest of the evening, so far, has gone about how you'd expect. The Seminoles, with Christian Ponder playing through a ruptured bursa sac, kept the ball on the ground and failed to convert their first set of downs. The 'Pack then responded with a five-minute, 51-yard drive that leaned heavily on Russell Wilson's shifty feet, although he did get off a nice 13-yard pass to James Washington to convert a third down in the middle of the series. Wilson skipped into the endzone for a one-yard score, and with just over eight minutes to play in the first quarter, North Carolina State took a 7-0 lead.

Inconveniently-timed penalties held back much of Florida State's answering drive, which shaved three minutes off the clock but only managed thirteen yards. The 'Noles and 'Pack traded futile offensive series for the remainder of the quarter.

At the end of the first quarter, NC State leads No. 16 Florida State, 7-0.
