Week 9 is ripe for upheaval in the BCS standings, with most teams ranked in the top ten facing stiff competition in the form of formidable opponents or mental letdown. This Saturday's most perilously-perched programs:
• BCS No. 1 Auburn: We hate to belabor this point, but it's almost November and Houston Nutt has this uncanny, freakish knack for winning games in which his team has no business even being competitive.
• BCS No. 2 Oregon: The Ducks, though dominant in most every quarter they've played, have not been their best selves on the road in 2010, and they're heading to the Coliseum to stare down a USC squad that will be treating tonight's game like a bowl.
• BCS No. 5 Michigan State: If Iowa gets past the Spartans this afternoon, should it even count as an upset? They've had several unlucky breaks, and the Hawkeyes' No. 18 ranking belies their talent and depth.
• BCS No. 6 Missouri: See above. No. 14 Nebraska may be the most balanced and dangerous one-loss team in the country, particularly if Bo Pelini and company can coax another world-beating performance out of freshman QB Taylor Martinez.
• BCS No. 8 Utah: Air Force is down, but far from out, and while the Utes are a level-headed bunch, there remains a risk of Kyle Whittingham's boys looking ahead to their rubber match with TCU.
