There wasn’t a whole lot of action in today’s early games that will matter when the BCS standings are released tomorrow. None of the teams in the top 15 of last week’s BCS rankings played in the noon window, and only two teams in the top 20, Oklahoma State and South Carolina, played. (Both won.)
BCS Rankings Largely Unaffected By Early Games, ACC Putrescence Confirmed
But what did transpire just seals this as one of the worst seasons in the ACC’s recent history. Miami, after losing Jacory Harris on a vicious hit, lost to Virginia. That makes the ACC’s ranked teams 0-2 this week, and a bye week for Virginia Tech means that number can’t get better — or worse.
Worse still for the ACC, Virginia Tech will almost surely be the highest-ranked team from the conference for this week and beyond. And the Hokies, who are the only ACC squad with no conference losses, might be the only one, if NC State’s win over Florida State knocks out the Seminoles and doesn’t boost the pack. So that team that lost to James Madison is now the ACC’s standard-bearer.
Oh, and Clemson, which had a chance to keep control of its destiny by merely beating Boston College, failed to do so. Terrible doesn’t even begin to describe how bad the ACC is this year.
