The Big Ten’s best hopes of making a run at a BCS Championship Game berth this year required an undefeated champion. That won’t happen, and now the conference’s standing in the polls will suffer without a top dog.
College Football Rankings: Big Ten Shut Out Of Top Seven In Week 10 USA Today Poll
The Big Ten does have four ranked teams in the USA Today coaches poll for Week 10, but none is higher than seventh, where Wisconsin sits, or lower than 16th, where Iowa is.
The even stickier problem is that all four Big Ten teams are still in the running to receive the conference’s automatic BCS berth for winning the conference, but the winner may not be the conference’s highest-rated team. Wisconsin, which beat Iowa and Ohio State but lost to one-loss Michigan State, has the inside track on a Rose Bowl berth, but could still be passed by Ohio State, which appears focused on humiliating the rest of its schedule to make up for its loss in Madison.
Full Big Ten rankings are as follows:
- No. 7 Wisconsin
- No. 8 Ohio State
- No. 15 Michigan State
- No. 16 Iowa
