While the ACC is enjoying unduly ranked teams, the Big East has been rated more properly by the USA Today poll voters: no Big East squads show up in the Week 10 rankings.
College Football Rankings: Big East Shut Out Of USA Today Poll For Second Straight Week
After West Virginia fell out of the USA Today poll in Week 9, there were probably hopes for a return by some Big East squad in the USA Today coaches poll for Week 10, but they appear to have been unfounded. Not only are the Mountaineers not ranked, only one Big East team even received votes.
That team is Syracuse, which has wins over Akron, Maine, and Colgate, and was trounced 45-14 but current Big East leader Pittsburgh. If the Orange are ever the Big East’s meal ticket in football, something has gone terribly wrong, but this team, which is more surprising than anything, signals an all-time down year for the conference.
Indeed, though Syracuse is the only conference team with less than three losses, the Orange would need two losses from the Panthers to win the Big East title and the corresponding automatic BCS berth. Then again, Pitt is still coached by Dave Wannstedt.
