When you leave an employer for another job, especially if you’re a college coach making a lateral move to another conference school -- as with Billy Gonzales leaving Florida for LSU -- there is a largely unwritten protocol for how you do so. This is not part of that protocol:
Billy Gonzales Uses Unique Stationery To Tell Urban Meyer He’s Leaving
↵↵The story circulating through Florida’s football program is that Gonzales informed Meyer he was leaving for a rival program with a sticky note.
↵↵But before we’re too hard on Gonzales, we should keep in mind the other options Gonzales considered for telling Urban Meyer that he was headed to Baton Rouge:
↵
- ↵
- Unliking the Urban Meyer Facebook fan page ↵
- A paper fortune teller with all the answers being, "You'll lose your wide receivers coach to LSU." ↵
- A Twitpic showing him board the flight out of Gainesville ↵
- A scoreboard message at the Sugar Bowl ↵
- A YouTube video featuring Gonzales singing "I Will Always Love You" ↵
↵So, all in all, this was really the most respectful way to end things.
