The snoozy early slate of games is livened up by just two pieces of what might be called news. The first is merely intriguing: the punchless Penn State Nittany Lions are down to Illinois 30-13, something that might be surprising if you didn’t know that Penn State has struggled offensively in every game this season against even mediocre defenses.
Baylor And Texas Tech Go For The Cycle Of Fluke Plays
The real show early on this Saturday is in the Baylor-Texas Tech game, where despite a failed fake punt and a disastrous onside attempt returned for a TD (video after the jump) the Red Raiders somehow have a 35-28 lead at the half. The secondaries have been replaced by roombas: the combined offenses have 686 yards of total offense, with Texas Tech accumulating 23 first downs out of what can only be called shocking negligence by the Baylor defense.
For the second half, both quarterbacks have agreed to throw left-handed to make things interesting. If this pattern of play continues, both teams will run the wishbone in the fourth quarter, and if this somehow goes to overtime both squads have agreed to settle the game with free kicks. Soccer rules may be the only thing capable of slowing this game down.
