We’ve become so numb to behemoth football stadiums that we rarely stop and appreciate the ones that are a little bit different. Boise State has the blue turf, but that’s old news. We want to see football stadiums that are structurally different. Possibly even weird and seemingly inefficient.
Kibbie Dome, America. America, Kibbie Dome.
That’s where the Kibbie Dome comes in. Less a Dome than, well, an oversized barn, it’s where Idaho plays their home games. America got a taste of the Kibbie Friday night when Boise State came to town to whoop up on some Vandals.
With only 16,000 permanent seats, its the smallest venue in all of FBS, barely qualifying to boot. The endzone dead-ends directly into walls as if they were a high school basketball gym. The only thing missing is a wooden stage at one end that players can leap up onto and disappear behind a curtain. It’s the kind of setup that minor league hockey teams are envious of.
As you might imagine, folks over on The Twitter had some fun with Kibbie. Fear not, Idahoans. We kid because we appreciate. We all have to return to our circular 60,000 stadiums next week and forget to even notice them. Meanwhile you guys get padded walls and low roof to enjoy always, even when we’re not there to see it on ESPN2.
