VIDEO: Florida State’s Dustin Hopkins Booms 55-Yard Game-Winning Field Goal

The best play in college football this week came on a field goal in a game that few rational people could have been expected to stay with until the end — Florida State-Clemson — and from a player one week removed from a missed field goal that cost his team a game. But Dustin Hopkins' redemption came on one of the more spectacular field goals you will ever see.

Officially, that’s a 55-yard game-winner as time expired — the first walk-off victory on a field goal in Florida State history, according to Tomahawk Nation. But Hopkins so thoroughly drills the ball that it appears to go through the uprights no less than 25 feet above the crossbar. His kick might have been good from 65 yards or further, and it was nearly dead center.

On a week when the big-name BCS contenders were content to just win ugly, Florida State struggled throughout a game for ACC positioning until which time a kicker with an ugly recent miss could repent with one of the better kicks in recent memory. Sometimes, you have to deal with the ugly to get to the sublime.
