If there’s been a surprise in this game so far, it’s been the solid job of passing the football by Chris Relf. He’s 11-of-15 for 136 yards; if he holds true to that rate through the second quarter, it will be his first game with a completion percentage of better than 50 percent since the Oct. 2 game — against Alcorn State. His yardage and passer rating are higher than any of the five games since then.
Arkansas Vs. Mississippi State: Relf Is Passing And Arkansas Is Rushing; What’s Going On Here?
Arkansas has been better running the ball, with 8.1 yards per attempt to State’s 3.9. That’s not as surprising, if for no other reason than Knile Davis has been on fire the last few games, but it’s still not exactly what we’re used to from the Razorbacks.
Not that Ryan Mallett’s been terrible — he’s 8-of-13 for 103 yards and a touchdown. And if he gets even warmer, it could be bad news for Mississippi State, especially if Relf can’t continue to have his best game of the season.
