Finally, the ACC has a top-14 team.
College Football Rankings: ACC Led By Virginia Tech In Week 13 USA Today Poll
Virginia Tech moves up one spot to 14th in the USA Today coaches poll for Week 13, which is the best news the ACC has gotten in a long time.
That’s because the top 14 teams in the BCS standings are the ones that would be eligible to receive at-large BCS bowl bids, and the Hokies are finally nearing that rarefied air after spending a season recovering from an 0-2 start that included a loss to James Madison.
Two other ACC schools are ranked, Florida State and North Carolina State, and Virginia Tech will meet one of the two for the ACC Championship in December in Charlotte. But if one of those two teams topples Virginia Tech, the Hokies’ high ranking affords the ACC faint hopes of placing two teams in the BCS and enjoying the large payday that would come with that feat.
It probably still won’t happen, because a Virginia Tech loss would drop the Hokies substantially. But the ACC can, at least, dream again.
Full ACC rankings are as follows:
- No. 14 Virginia Tech
- No. 21 Florida State
- No. 23 North Carolina State
