College Football Rankings: Week 13 USA Today Poll Shuts Out Big East

In a development that should surprise absolutely no one, the Big East remains terrible at football.

No Big East teams show up in the USA Today coaches poll for Week 13, which is about par for the course for a conference whose overwhelming frontrunner for the conference championship just became bowl eligible with a win this weekend.

That would be newly 6-4 Pittsburgh, which topped South Florida to become bowl eligible. The Panthers are one of two Big East teams to receive votes in this week’s USA Today poll, but are well behind West Virginia’s Mountaineers in the “also receiving votes” listing.

The Mountaineers would be 29th, if the rankings went that far; Pittsburgh would be 34th.

That’s some depressing stuff, but it’s less depressing than this: Connecticut could still win the conference. That’s Connecticut, the same team that didn’t seem to belong on the same field with Michigan, the sixth- or seventh-best team in the Big Ten.

For the Big East, the long-rumored chance of conference expansion cannot come true soon enough.
