BCS Rankings: Auburn On Top In Week 14 Standings, Stanford Fourth

In the Week 14 BCS rankings, the beast of the SEC is the nation’s top team once again.

After a bump from their escape at Alabama, the Auburn Tigers take the top spot in the Week 14 BCS standings, displacing the Oregon Ducks to second. Both teams are still in line to meet in the BCS National Championship Game by finishing their seasons with wins this week.

Auburn and Oregon are followed in the top five by TCU, Stanford, and Wisconsin. This likely means good things for both the Cardinal and the Badgers: both teams likely locked up automatic BCS bowl berths by moving up to those positions.

Stanford will have an automatic at-large BCS bowl bid if it finishes fourth in next week’s final BCS rankings, and Wisconsin will have the Big Ten’s automatic BCS bowl bid if it remains ahead of Ohio State and Michigan State in those standings. With all of those teams done with their seasons, it’s unlikely that the rankings would change after Week 14 byes.

Meanwhile, TCU has likely sewn up a Rose Bowl berth by moving up to third, and might yet sneak into the BCS National Championship Game should either Auburn or Oregon lose. And Oklahoma earned a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game by being the highest-rated Big 12 South co-champion in the Week 14 standings.

The big losers this week? Boise State and LSU, both vanquished on the field in Week 13 and banished from their top-five perches in last week’s BCS rankings. Neither team appears likely to make it to a BCS bowl.

We’ll have more analysis on the BCS standings and the ramifications of them as the night wears on, including analysis from our BCS expert.
