Poinsettia Bowl Selects Navy For Postseason San Diego Trip

The Navy Midshipmen football team gets a cross-country trip for Christmas. The school has accepted an invitation to the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl on December 23. (Isn't it funny how un-ridiculous that name sounds now, in the era of the Beef 'O' Brady's and BBVA Compass Bowls? It's almost quaint.)

The Middies recorded an 8-3 season and could finish 9-3 with a win in the Army-Navy game on December 11. Hopes were high for a better record in August, but low-octane losses at Maryland and Air Force and a shootout defeat against Duke dropped them below polling range. Their likely opponent is a deceptively stalwart San Diego State team, but there's been no official word just yet.

Bowl selections will continue to roll in throughout the week, and we'll be following them all right here. Stay tuned to this StoryStream right on through the selection show this Sunday night.
