Oregon and Auburn are still atop the BCS rankings, but this week brings showdowns for Boise State, TCU, and Utah that might BCS bowl berths and national title shots. Will this week bring the meek to the peak of the college football landscape?
BCS Rankings And Ramifications For Top 10 Teams
No. 1 Oregon at Washington, 3:30 p.m.
If Oregon wins: The Ducks continue a march toward a BCS National Championship Game berth.
If Washington wins: We all laugh for many, many moons. Oh, and Boise State and the TCU/Utah winner have legitimate hopes of a BCS title game berth.
No. 2 Auburn vs. Chattanooga, 1:00 p.m.
If Auburn wins: The “distraction” of an NCAA investigation Cam Newton’s eligibility doesn’t stop the Tigers from keeping a hold on a spot in a BCS championship game.
If Chattanooga wins: It would maybe be the biggest upset in the history of college football. Oh, and Boise State and the TCU/Utah winner ... don’t actually get to look forward to a BCS title shot, because Alabama could just overtake either team.
No. 3 TCU at No. 5 Utah, 3:30 p.m.
If TCU wins: The Horned Frogs are likely ahead of Boise State for good, and first in line to take a spot in the BCS National Championship Game should Oregon or the eventual SEC champ falter.
If Utah wins: The Utes take the same spot TCU would. The loser of this game, though, is likely to regard this season as a failure, will probably fall out of the BCS top ten, and may go from BCS bowl contention to a struggle to make a January bowl game.
No. 4 Boise State vs. Hawaii, 3:30 p.m.
If Boise State wins: The Broncos maintain a hold on a spot near the top of the BCS standings.
If Hawaii wins: The Smurf Turf Squad must wait for another chance to run the table and get jobbed by the BCS system.
No. 6 Alabama at No. 10 LSU, 3:30 p.m.
If Alabama wins: The back door to a second consecutive national championship remains cracked for the Crimson Tide.
If LSU wins: The chances for a one-loss SEC team in the national title game are totally dependent on Auburn, which would also be able to lock up an SEC Championship Game berth with a win over Georgia next week.
