SB Nation’s BCS Evolution reviews the state of the six conference races that will send winners to the five major BCS bowls in 2010. This being the season of the giant bats, conventional wisdom has, in many cases, been tossed out the window, stomped upon and set merrily ablaze. The frontrunners in the Big Six are as follows:
ACC: Wide open. Any one of approximately seventeen teams could take the Atlantic Division, including Tulane, which is a Conference USA team with a 3-6 record. Virginia Tech has a slim lead in the Coastal, but their perch is far from secure.
Big 12: Nebraska controls their own destiny for the North title. Oklahoma State and Oklahoma are battling for the South. Texas is already eliminated. Big East: Pitt leads the way. We’ve already covered why this is problematic.
Big Ten: Michigan State, Ohio and Wisconsin are all possibilities, with Iowa in the mix just to compound confusion.
Pac-10: Oregon will take the title even if they somehow manage to lose a game between now and December.
SEC: Florida has to beat South Carolina to win the East. Georgia and Tennessee are nowhere to be seen. LSU, Alabama and Auburn are still vying for the West crown.
