With Dan Hawkins out as the Colorado Buffalo head coach effective immediately, it is being reported by ABC 7 in Denver that linebackers and associate head coach Brian Cabral will take over interim coaching duties:
Reports Name Brian Cabral Interim Coach For Colorado Buffaloes
Cabral is a long time veteran of the staff who has consistently churned out strong linebacker units. He has worked for four Colorado head coaches during his tenure, Bill McCartney, Rick Neuheisel, Gary Barnett and now Dan Hawkins. For all seven seasons under Barnett, Cabral also was the assistant head coach, which included a three-month period in 2004 as interim head coach when Barnett was on paid administrative leave.
This looks to be a short term solution for Colorado as they will want to make a splash heading into the Pac-12 in 2011. Current LSU head coach Les Miles, who is a former Colorado assistant coach is on the short list for the jobs as is former Oregon head coach Mike Bellotti.
