VIDEO: Bo Jackson Takes Off His Belt To Spank Cam Newton

The Heisman Trophy Award Dinner was Monday night, and the centerpiece for the evening’s speaking offerings was Cam Newton, who got way more time than he had on television to accept the award, talk about his path to this Heisman-winning season, and to endure another Heisman tradition: being heckled by the middle-aged men who won it before you, and who want to hit you with belts.

Billy Sims did hold the crown for Heisman heckling prior to this year, but Bo Jackson of Auburn easily claimed the title Monday night when he and Newton playfully jawed back and forth during Newton’ speech. Repartee! Such a lost art:

”Also at Heisman banquet tonight, Bo to Cam: “You throw like a girl.” Cam to Bo: “You run like a girl.”

When Newton claimed that his goal was to be “better than Bo Jackson,” Jackson stood up and took off his belt. You might assume this meant a sign of mock hostility by the elder Jackson to the sassy youngster.

What you don’t know is that Bo Jackson compliments everyone he respects by removing his belt and then his pants, something that created a lot of confusion in the Reagan White House during his Heisman visit in 1986. (Secret Service guard attempted to tackle Jackson, but were easily eluded. Later, Jackson would rank them as the second easiest broken tackles of his life, trailing only Brian Bosworth in that category.)

Relevant video is at the 3:00 mark or so.

The War Eagle Reader has the other video of Bo telling Cam he throws like a girl, which is accurate if you mean “a girl who is really a grownass man who can throw balls through an aluminum storage shed.” You need a gif of Bo’s de-belting, courtesy of LSUFreek.
