The 2010 college football postseason kicks off tomorrow, and it's time to place all your money set aside for Christmas shopping on ridiculous, half-assed bowl games played by largely inept football teams. Degenerate gamblers, start your engines. Now playing: BYU vs. UTEP in the New Mexico Bowl.
The line: The Cougars currently favored by anywhere from 11 to 13 points, depending on where you're getting your odds.
Notable BYU units: The Cougars boast the nation's 21st-ranked pass defense, and that's about as remarkable as their achievements get on the stat sheet, unless you count their offense, ranked 105th nationally in passing efficiency.
Notable UTEP units: The Miners boast the nation's No. 11 punt return team and No. 11 kickoff return outfit. They're also tied for 105th in sacks (to say nothing of 118th in tackles for loss), so look for wee Jake Heaps to enjoy a sunny, undisturbed afternoon in the pocket if his line holds up at all.
The pick: UTEP, because we are inordinately fond of saying "Donald Buckram," and because if Mike Price is thinking of retirement, he'll probably use his last stores of midnight-in-El-Paso magic up on this game.
