It looked for a moment like Eastern Washington’s red field would not have the same kind of mystical powers that the blue turf of Boise does. On the opening play of the game, Angelo Babbaro ran the kickoff back 86 yards in 11 seconds to give Villanova the 7-0 lead early.

Then again, Eastern Washington quickly recovered, going 63 yards on five plays to tie the game a 7-7. Bo Levi Mitchell hit Nicholas Edwards for 31 yards to finish off the scoring drive, after Mario Brown ran for 22 yards and Mitchell rushed for another three.
And now, Villanova has fumbled the ball at its own 37-yard line. Maybe the red turf is magical after all.
