Perhaps it’s best for Villanova to score on kickoff returns, as the Wildcats did for the first points of the game. Because they’re having trouble holding onto the ball otherwise.
Villanova Vs. Eastern Washington: Eagles In Control After First Quarter, Lead By 6
After the early-game outburst of points, Eastern Washington decided to take things slow on its second drive -- set up by a Villanova fumble. A blocking penalty moved the Eagles back to their own 49-yard line before Eastern Washington resumed moving. Bo Levi Mitchell passed for 33 yards as the Eagles advanced pretty easily to the Villanova 13, before a formation penalty and a couple of plays came up short. The Eagles took a 10-7 lead on the field goal.
It took all of four plays for Villanova to fumble the ball right back to Eastern Washington. But the drive once again broke down in the red zone -- well, inside the 20, since the entire field is technically a red zone -- and the Eagles had to settle for another field goal.
Villanova ends the quarter with 20 offensive yards, compared to 147 for Eastern Washington.
