Poinsettia Bowl, Navy Vs. San Diego State: Aztecs Hang On For 21-14 Halftime Lead

Down by two touchdowns late in the first quarter of the 2010 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, Navy gets off a nice 21-yard kick return from Hayden Maples that sets the Mids up at their own 32-yard line. A dink-and-dunk drive takes us through the end of the period, and on the second play of the second quarter, facing 3rd-and-19, Ricky Dobbs hits Greg Jones down the right-hand sideline for a 30-yard touchdown.

The Aztecs' suddenly shortened lead is about to bump right back up, however. Two uneventful drives pass, and with six minutes and change remaining at the half, Ryan Lindley leads his team to midfield and beyond with a series of mid-range plays. With 3:23 remaining in the half, Ronnie Hillman breaks loose for a 37-yard touchdown run up the middle, and the margin is back to two scores.

That, too, won't stand for long. Navy runs a three-minute version of the two-minute drill that uses up the remaining time in the half neatly and nets them seven more points via a one-yard Ricky Dobbs touchdown run. At halftime, the score in the 2010 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl is San Diego State 21, Navy 14.
