Poinsettia Bowl, Navy Vs. San Diego State: An Action-Free Third Quarter In Qualcomm

The third quarter of the 2010 San Diego Country Credt Union passes largely without incident or action. Ricky Dobbs does complete a beautiful pass to the incomparably-named Gee Gee Greene for 30 yards, but the drive ends in a punt. Multiple fruitless drives are exchanged, but the one we want to focus on is the last of the quarter, beginning with 3:46 remaining, where San Diego State takes over at their own 26-yard line.

Ronnie Hillman runs up the middle for four yards on first down, which doesn't bode well for Navy's defense the rest of the day. Ryan Lindley hits Gavin Escobar for a three-yard gain on the next play, which Escobar fumbles away but recovers himself. Then it's two straight Lindley passes to DeMarco Sampson -- one for 15 yards over the middle, and a second scorching 30-yarder that moves the Aztecs deep into Navy territory. As the third quarter draws to a close, the Aztecs have moved to the Midshipmen's 16-yard line. The score remains 21-14, with San Diego State leading.
