Little Caesars Bowl, FIU Vs. Toledo: Just Don’t Run Out Of Pizza, Guys

SB Nation’s MAC blog, Hustle Belt, questions the wider lack of fast-food sponsorship of college football bowl games. Why is Little Caesars, of all places, getting all this postseason action?

Last night I was thinking about why KFC doesn’t sponsor a bowl. Think about this: KFC sells bowls of food, and by the Rule of Homonyms, it’s also a televised college football exhibition game. This will happen soon, perhaps somewhere in Kentucky, but for now we can only hope that the marketing prodigies figure this one out. In the meantime, the most delicious postseason game remains the Little Caesar’s Pizza Bowl.
Delicious is, of course, a relative term, but this game’s title sponsor’s offering is a lot like tonight’s game: We’ll consume it because it’s there. And don’t rule out the possibility of food-based tie-ins:

No, Little Caesar’s doesn’t sell any type of pizza in a bowl, although they could probably run the Cup O’ Pizza guys out of business. But you can certainly smoosh a pizza slice into a bowl/cone shape, and then fill it with marinara or garlic sauce, and then eat it. You’re probably going to enjoy this new-found way of enjoying heat lamp cheese bread.
If we may offer one bit of advice to Little Caesar’s, it’s to really stock up those concession stands at Ford Field before kickoff. As America’s last standing pizza-based bowl game (and really, who saw that coming?), best not to follow the example of the late, bemoaned PapaJohns.com game and be known more for pizza shortages than actual football.
