The 2010 Texas Bowl features a few NFL Draft prospects to keep an eye on. You’ll have to train your eyes on the line of scrimmage to catch most of them, which seems like a reasonably Texas thing to do.
2011 NFL Draft Prospects: Mikel Leshoure, Phil Taylor, Corey Liuget Starring In Texas Bowl
Junior Iliinois Fighting Illini RB Mikel Leshoure will be hard to miss, though. The 230-pound, 1,500-yard slugger dropped 330 yards on Northwestern just a couple games ago and has a touchdown in six straight games. He projects as an early second-rounder at the moment.
Gigantic Baylor Bears DT Phil Taylor, a senior, will likely be a second-day pick, with his experience as a true nose tackle (and his 355 pounds of enormity) sure to convince some GM to take a shot. Illini junior DT Corey Liuget may not enter the draft this year, but he’s a potential mid-round selection.
On the other side of the ball, senior Baylor tackle Danny Watkins will have to help monitor junior Illini MLB Martez Wilson. As Mocking The Draft notes, Wilson has a higher ceiling, but injury concerns could affect his decision on whether to enter. Watkins should be a lower risk and a potential backup left tackle.
The 2010 Texas Bowl kicks off at 6 p.m. EST, Wednesday, December 29. The game will be televised on ESPN. For a complete list of bowls, browse our 2010 college football postseason schedule.
