The Miami Hurricanes will outscore the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 14-3 in the fourth quarter of the 2010 Sun Bowl, but thanks to the first three quarters, it will not matter.
The 'Canes complete a three-and-out as the period opens, and Notre Dame begins to run the clock out, with Cierre Wood rushing on three straight plays for a three-and-out in response. The next Miami drive has some life in it: Stephen Morris gets pass-happy, and with connections of 28, 12, and 11 yards, sets up the 'Canes for a 6-yard touchdown pass to Leonard Hankerson. Notre Dame 30, Miami 10.
The Irish take to the ground again, this time leaning on Robert Hughes for the bulk of their touches. The 'Canes get it back with six and a half minutes remaining, and in short order Morris is winging a 42-yard touchdown pass to Tommy Streeter. Notre Dame 30, Miami 17.
The Irish listlessly drive again, and send on wee kicker Nick Tausch in place of the just de-perfected David Ruffer, who had his season-long streak of field goals snapped earlier in the afternoon, and he'll make the last score of the game, a 34-yard field goal. Morris attempts one last drive that's stymied when Streeter loses his bearings on the icy endzone and crashes face-first into a barrier. Final score from El Paso: Notre Dame 33, Miami 17.
