Liberty Bowl, UCF Vs. Georgia: Knights Win Field Goal Fest, 10-7

It was a field goal fest in the Liberty Bowl and the first team that finally found the end zone — in the fourth quarter, no less — took home the trophy. The Central Florida Knights used a 10-yard Latavius Murray touchdown run with just over nine minutes to go in the game to take a 10-6 lead over the Georgia Bulldogs. That four point lead held as Georgia’s aversion to the end zone continued to close the game.

Georgia and Central Florida traded field goals in an enthralling first half, with both teams kicking what amounted to little more than extra points. The Bulldogs drove 95 yards in the first quarter before settling for a field goal while the Knights traveled 27 yards before settling for the same fate in the second.

The second half opened the same way as the first, with Georgia hitting a 41-yard field goal to take a commanding 6-3 lead into the fourth quarter. The Knights answered once again in the fourth quarter, driving 65 yards in 11 plays, capped by Murray’s touchdown run, the only one of the game.

Georgia ends a disappointing 2010 campaign at 6-7. Central Florida, on the other hand, finished the season at 11-3, capped by a win over an SEC team. No matter how ugly the game was — and, boy, was it ugly — UCF is your 2010 Liberty Bowl champion. If you’re a Georgia fan, just block this season out, if at all possible.
