Two Stabbed In Rose Bowl Brawl Before USC-UCLA Game

USC and UCLA’s season-ending game Saturday night has no major national implications and neither team will be going to a bowl. And so the only thing left to be decided is bragging rights.

Such rights are better decided on the field of play than, say, the parking lot outside the stadium. Unfortunately, things got way ugly before the players even took the field.

An estimated 50 to 75 fans of both schools fought in Parking Lot 1 near the Brookside Golf Course at about 4:20 p.m., some three hours before the crosstown-rivalry game between the Bruins and Trojans was set to start, Pasadena police Cmdr. Darryl Qualls said.

One person was stabbed in the cheek, the other in the back, Qualls said. Both were taken by ambulance to Huntington Memorial Hospital. He described their condition as stable.

According to Sports By Brooks, the fracas got kicked off when an errant football thrown by a fan from one side hit a Mercedes-Benz driven by a fan from the other. Yep, that’s all it took. Let the forehead-smacking commence.
