College Football Awards: Da’Quan Bowers Wins Bronko Nagurski And Ted Hendricks Awards

Yesterday Clemson Tigers DE Da’Quan Bowers won the 2010 Bronko Nagurski Award, given to the nation’s top defensive player. Today he added to his collection, grabbing the Ted Hendricks Award as the nation’s best defensive end.

Bowers, who leads the country in sacks and in tackles-for-loss yardage, was also named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Coach Dabo Swinney commented on his star defender:

This is another great honor for Da’Quan. He is on his way to becoming the most decorated Clemson football player in history. Winning the Nagurski Award on Monday night was very special. I was pleased to be a part of that as the keynote speaker at that banquet. And now he has won the Hendricks Award as the top defensive end, another great national honor named after a legendary player.

It will be a slim awards season for ACC players, as FSU’s Rodney Hudson is the only conference player besides Bowers who still has a chance at winning a major award. Bowers is also up for the Bednark, which goes to the nation’s top defender, alongside LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson and Lombardi-winner Nick Fairley.
