College Football Awards: Cam Newton Takes Home 2010 Walter Camp Award In Stunning Upset

In the leadup to tonight's bestowing of a number of major college football awards, we've got an early winner: Cam "Cameron" Newton, a little-known quarterback* nobody ever hears much about, is the 2010 recipient of the Walter Camp Award. Nice to see the kid get some press for once.

The award is bestowed by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, and is distinguishable from the Heisman Trophy because of its designation for the "best player in college football," as opposed to "most outstanding." These concepts are completely different. Note, too, that the recipient is not necessarily guaranteed to win the Heisman Trophy (Colt McCoy took it home the past two years), although something tells us that's not something we need to worry about this year.

*Auburn fans: We have, in fact, heard of Cam Newton. Please remove your pitchforks from the windows of our home.

Join what's sure to be a vociferous celebration of all things Cam Newton at SB Nation's Auburn community, Track 'Em Tigers.
