Pat Fitzgerald, able and sane coach of the Northwestern football team, has some unsettlingly charitable things to say about the Wildcats’ Saturday date with Minnesota. (The Minnesota that’s already lost to a MAC team and South Dakota.) There’s the time-honored, if exasperating practice of building up one’s opponent in advance of a game in order to manage expectations, and then there’s ... whatever this is:
Pat Fitzgerald Dons Crazy Pants To Discuss Minnesota Football
↵Fitzgerald called Minnesota “one of the best-coached teams in the country.”
[...]
“Schematically, they do an outstanding job in all three phases,” he said. “They have great athletes all over the place. Timmy has recruited outstanding … this is the best team we will have played.”
↵You know who else has great athletes? The Golden Gophers’ women’s volleyball squad, who earned their third Final Four berth in a decade last season. But you don’t see them winning any football games. (Although ... say, that’s not a bad idea.)
